Two Tips for Spring

Two Tips for Spring

Enjoy these two tips for making the most of your spring garden.
Back before I moved to Miami, spring was my favorite season. Living in the land of seemingly perpetual summer weather hasn’t really changed that. I just flew to Austin, Texas, for some training. Seeing the trees just leafing out and showing off that almost indescribable shade of green makes me wistful for those early-spring days I grew up with in Minnesota. While I’m learning a ton of things here in Texas to help me make the CostaFarms.com website better for you to use, I want to share a couple of tips you can use to make future seasons better in your yard.

Take Notes and Pictures
Things come and go before you know it. Take pictures of the way your yard and plantings look, especially of bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and crocus. Then refer back to your images and notes in autumn if you want to plant more early-spring companions. pay attention to what varieties bloom when. In my old garden, I designed it so I had plants flowering every day from the very start of spring to the end of fall. Taking photos throughout the year helped me fill in the gaps.

Visit Your Garden Center More than Once
If you’re embarking on a new landscaping project and want interest to go beyond spring, you may need to visit the garden center several times. Many of these garden stores focus on selling only the plants that are in bloom at the time -- so if you go once in spring, you may find you don’t have any flowers to enjoy in summer and fall. Visiting every month or two helps keep your cycle of bloom going from frost to frost.
